WordPress PressIt Bookmarklet Hidden Features

Wow! Guess I should have read the f**’ing manual on the WordPress Bookmarklet shortcut.
You get the PressIt bookmarklet by logging into your WordPress Admin, clicking on "Write" then scrolling to the bottom of the page — it lurks down there and bookmarking it or dragging that link up to your browser toolbar.

I was just looking at the PHP source the bookmarklet uses today and realized they had support in there for pressing more than just the URL you’re viewing; CONTENT TOO! All you have to do is select text on the page you’re visiting before “Pressing it”. This was never obvious to me before, so I pass that tip along here…

Anyone interested in a plugin for WordPress to cross-post among your WP blogs? I am, and considering writing something like that. The basic functionality of it would work much like the Press-It bookmarklet except except that the edit window that pops up would have more information about the Post you wanted to cross-publish. For example, from either your WP-Admin Manage Posts list or while logged in and viewing your WP blog, you’d click a link on one of the posts and have all it’s information come up in the Press-It window of a different WordPress blog you manage.

At that point you could tweak the content or simply push it out to the other blog. There are other ways of achieving this, for example FeedWordPress Plugin which pulls RSS feeds and creates new posts, but I’m hoping for something more precise for the occasional posts.

Leave me some feedback with your ideas.

Well, one way you could automatically cross-post occasional selected posts is to use FeedWordPress together with WordPress’s category feeds. So, you could create a category named (say) “Crosspost: Acme Technologies Zeitgeist”, place all and only the posts that you want crossposted to ATZ under that category, and then have FeedWordPress syndicate the Atom or RSS feed for that category. That would get you something automated with existing tools but with more precision than just syndicating everything from the front page.
